- All classes will be held at the Helen Arts and Heritage Center, 25 Chattahoochee Street in Downtown Helen, Georgia unless otherwise noted.

Hand-Building Pottery
This class is aimed at beginning hand-builders eager to explore clay and basic glazing techniques. Pinch, coil, slab and texturing processes will be introduced and expanded upon with class assignments making various functional and sculptural forms. Students will glaze their work on the last day of class and will pick up finished pieces after class has ended. More advanced classes may also be arranged with the instructor.

Clay On and Off the Wheel
This class introduces the potter’s wheel and several hand-building techniques, including pinching, coiling, and slab-building. If you are new to working with clay, this survey course will cover the fundamentals and will help you define your interests for future classes. Students will create functional stoneware pottery of their own design. Pieces will be glazed and fired throughout the course. This program is supported in part by the Grassroots Arts Program of the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) through an appropriation of the Georgia General Assembly and administered by the Georgia Appalachian Studies Center at North Georgia College & State University. GCA also receives support from its partner, the National Endowment for the Arts.

Watercolor Batik on Rice Paper
In this class students will learn to use wax-resist on rice paper with watercolor paints to create a beautiful work of art. All materials as well as drawings to choose from will be provided by the instructor. This is a great class for beginners as well as experienced artists. Each student will leave with a finished, matted piece ready for framing.

Painting Floor Cloths
Using linoleum vinyl floor coverings, acrylic paint will be used to paint an attractive floor cloth. Beginners with no painting experience are welcome. The use of acrylic paint, brush strokes and design will be covered. You will go home with at least one floor cloth, maybe more!

Painting With Pastels and Acrylic Spray
This class is for anyone who is interested in exploring their own creativity with fun techniques! All levels are welcome.

Materials: Bring your own soft pastels and a sack lunch. Paper and other supplies will be provided.
