YOUTH CLASSES
10 LESSONS FOR "PAINTING WITH JUDY BYNUM GEORGE
SPECIAL YOUTH SERIES for 6-8th Grades
Note: Classes are self-contained so that you can miss a class & still have a complete project each week.
1 Start With Where You Are and What You've Got
We will go over basic tips for a successful painting and do a drawing study of one object using colored pencils. (I will bring several objects, including musical instruments, or they may choose something of their own, such as a pocket book, or something already in the art room. I will photograph their drawings and the subject they are working from, and bring enlarged prints for them to work from at the next class.)
II Keeping it Simple: Students will do an acrylic painting of the object they drew the first week. If they have not done the preliminary study, they may paint from objects in the studio or bring a picture of an object they would like to paint.
III Emphasis on texture and detail: from fish to fishnet hose.
We will combine painting and drawing, fabric, and type.
We will also discuss "flat" vs. shading.
IV The Gift of Sight: The perfect season of the year to spend time looking at things that are all around us all the time. We will paint trees and the Chattahoochee River, and go outdoors if weather permits
V Finding Beauty in Unexpected Places: This will give us a chance to make art from our everyday lives and look at places we are most familiar with, but not thought of as beautiful. Students will be asked to bring photos they have taken as subjects for today's lesson.
VI Still life Painting: Capturing Autumn Indoors: Students will paint with palette knife along with Judy, and create a 16x20 acrylic painting.
VI I There's No Place Like Home: Students will paint along with Judy to create sketch paintings from scenes around White County
VIII The Power of Words: Hard edge painting.
IX Rock My World: Using strong color for personal expression
X Finishing Touches: The final week, we will spend a few minutes preparing our pieces for display, and then make a visit to the painting studio of Judy Bynum George.
Class: Painting with Judy Bynum George
Instructor: Judy Bynum George
Dates: September 12, 19 & 26, Oct 3, 10, 17, 24
(no class on October 31) November 7, 14, 21
